The counseling center was established as a springboard to our outreach programs. We believe that preparing students from financially-limited families with the means and resources to fund their post-secondary education, along with providing study support, are essential elements to create positive outcomes. Many scholarship applications require online submission. In addition, many schools have Google Classrooms which require the internet for homework assignments. This creates a hardship for many who do not have internet access in their homes. Some schools provide students with some type of device to help in that regard, but children without WiFi in their homes are at a serious disadvantage without the technology. The counseling center fills this void by providing computers and internet access in a safe environment for students and families.
The counseling center is staffed entirely by volunteers, which is by far our strongest asset and cost saver. The staff consists of current and former educators, school administrators, counselors, nonprofit managers, and technology specialists. Additionally, eighty-five percent of the volunteer staff hold masters degrees or higher. Sixty-five percent of the staff maintains a current license from the Arkansas Department of Education.
The formation of the Delta Presents Alumni Association, affords us the opportunity to network with more than five decades of former honorees. It is also a unique opportunity for former honorees to give back to the Foundation and mentor current honorees. Their office will be housed here at the center.
Through a lease agreement with the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter, the center is utilized for their monthly meeting and youth initiative programs.
